It started with a shady spot that wouldn't stay shady — and a good reason to care.

I've had skin cancer. So for me, staying out of the sun at the beach isn't about comfort — it's something I take seriously. When I invested in a CoolCabana, I bought it because it's one of the best beach shades you can get, and I wanted to get the most out of it.

And it is great — right up until the afternoon, when the sun drops toward the horizon and slides in under the canopy from the side. Suddenly the shady spot I'd set up wasn't shady anymore, and there was no good way to fix it. On a cabana I'd spent real money on, that was frustrating.

So I went looking for a side wall to add to it — and found there wasn't one. No one made a side wall built for the CoolCabana. The few canopies that came with walls didn't sell them separately, and they didn't fit a CoolCabana anyway. If I wanted to solve this, I'd have to build it myself.

So I did. ShadeX ® is the side wall that didn't exist — designed to clip onto the CoolCabanas and other beach canopies you already own.

What ShadeX is

ShadeX is a clip-on side wall for CoolCabanas and standard beach canopies. It attaches to the frame you already have — no tools, no modifications — blocks the low afternoon sun, adds privacy, and cuts the wind and blowing sand. When you're done, it packs down into a carry bag.

That's the whole idea: one simple add-on that gets more shade and more use out of a cabana you already paid good money for.

How I built it

I designed the side wall around the problems I actually had on the beach, not a spec sheet. UV50+ fabric, because more shade is the entire point. Built-in sand pockets instead of stakes, because nobody wants to hammer stakes into the sand. Heavy-duty clips that hold in a breeze. A fit that works with the Cool Cabana you already own.
